Job summary

Education Authority is seeking a Kitchen Assistant/Coodern to support the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor in preparing and cooking meals for a school setting. You will work as part of a team to provide a hygienic, efficient service that promotes customer satisfaction and sales within the unit.

The role involves assisting with menu planning, portion control, dietary meals, record keeping, hygiene, and supervision of staff. Training and compliance with all regulations are essential.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in food preparation and cooking or City & Guilds 706-1 & 706-2 or equivalent or higher relevant qualification.
  • Two years’ experience of food preparation and cooking within a catering establishment.
  • Knowledge of HACCP.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of menus and portion control, including special dietary meals and function catering where appropriate.
  • Assist with record keeping and hygiene/food safety in the kitchen, including temperature checks.
  • Supervise or share supervision of other staff and assist with the planning of meals.
  • Handle stock-taking, stores/fridges, and receipt of deliveries; assist in general kitchen management when the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor is absent.
  • Promote the service to parents, principals and customers to increase uptake.
  • Ensure premises security and complete delegated duties; comply with statutory regulations and Codes of Practice.
