Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking an experienced School Attendance Officer for a busy secondary school in Croydon. You will monitor attendance across the school, work with the pastoral team and engage with families to support attendance improvements.

The ideal candidate will have previous attendance or pastoral experience, be confident communicating with parents and pupils, and be familiar with SIMS or Arbor. An enhanced DBS is required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in school attendance or pastoral teams is essential.
• Experience using SIMS, Arbor or similar MIS is highly desirable.
• Strong communication with parents and pupils; safeguarding awareness.

Responsibilities

• Monitoring daily attendance and identifying unexplained absences.
• Contacting parents and carers regarding absence.
• Maintaining accurate attendance records.
• Identifying patterns of persistent or repeated absence.
• Working closely with Heads of Year and pastoral staff.
• Supporting attendance improvement plans.
• Preparing attendance information and reports for senior leaders.
• Recording interventions and communication with families.
• Arranging and supporting attendance meetings.
• Liaising with external professionals where appropriate.
• Following school attendance and safeguarding procedures.
• Ensuring information is accurately recorded on the school's MIS.
• Maintaining confidentiality when dealing with sensitive family information.
