Job summary

Marchant Recruitment is seeking an Attendance Officer for a community-focused secondary school in Merseyside. You will take operational responsibility for tracking, recording, and improving student attendance and punctuality, working with Heads of Year and safeguarding teams to develop interventions.

The role requires experience in attendance or pastoral work in a secondary setting, strong IT skills with SIMS/Arbor, and excellent communication to engage families.

Qualifications

• Experience in attendance, pastoral, or student support in a secondary school or local authority setting.
• Proficient with SIMS, Arbor or equivalent school management systems.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of national attendance legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and child protection guidelines.
• Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle for local home visits (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily attendance recording and first-day absence communications.
• Analyse attendance data to identify patterns and plan targeted support.
• Lead parent consultations and home visits to address attendance barriers.
• Collaborate with EWOs, social care and safeguarding staff on statutory actions.
• Prepare attendance summaries and report to SLT and governors.
