Job summary

Job DescriptionSchool Attendance Officer Secondary SchoolLocation: Stafford Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday Contract: Full-time, ongoingElite Supply Services is recruiting an experienced and proactive Attendance Officer to support a secondary school in Stafford.The successful candidate will work closely with students, parents, carers and school staff to improve attendance, identify barriers to learning and provide appropriate support to families. This role may also involve conducting home visits when required.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and follow up on poor or persistent student attendance
• Meet with students and parents or carers to discuss attendance concerns
• Identify barriers affecting attendance and engagement with education
• Develop and monitor attendance action plans
• Conduct appropriate home visits where necessary
• Maintain accurate and confidential attendance records
• Work closely with pastoral, safeguarding and senior leadership teams
• Liaise with external agencies and local authority services when required
• Ensure the school follows current attendance legislation, regulations and guidance

The ideal candidate will

• Have previous experience in a school attendance, pastoral, safeguarding or family-support role
• Have a good understanding of current school attendance regulations and statutory guidance
• Be confident holding sensitive and sometimes challenging conversations with students and families
• Have excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills
• Be able to work professionally and maintain confidentiality
• Be comfortable undertaking home visits
• Ideally hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle
• Understand safeguarding procedures within an educational setting

The successful applicant will be required to complete all relevant safeguarding and compliance checks, including an enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
