Job summary

Open Cosmos Ltd. in the UK is seeking a software engineer to design, implement, validate and maintain satellite flight software. You will collaborate with Systems, Electronics and Mission Operations to ensure cross-functional alignment and reliability.

You will develop features for Linux and RTOS-based systems, participate in CI/CD, and apply secure coding and fault-tolerant design to mission-critical space applications, with opportunities to contribute to post-launch operations.

Qualifications

• Strong programming capability in Rust, or solid understanding in C/C++ with the motivation to transition to Rust in production.
• Proficiency in Linux development environments, including scripting and command-line tooling.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools (GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, pytest).
• Knowledge of secure coding and fault-tolerant design for mission-critical space software.

Responsibilities

• Designing, implementing, validating, and maintaining satellite flight software.
• Supporting ground tools, ensuring robust, traceable software for space missions.
• Developing features for Linux and RTOS-based systems per mission requirements.
• Participating in code reviews, testing campaigns, and CI/CD to maintain high software quality.
• Maintaining configuration control, documentation, and full software traceability throughout the lifecycle.
• Collaborating with Systems, Electronics, and Mission Operations teams to integrate and test subsystems.
• Contributing to post-launch operations and build and integration activities.
• Driving continuous improvement in architecture, design, and engineering processes.
