Job description

Dahlia Recruitment - Renewables are partnered with this rapidly growing specialist engineering and innovation Renewables business to recruit for an experienced Sales Engineer to join their growing team in Staffordshire.

You’ll play a key role focussing on internal sales activities but also expected to support customer meetings and sales visits. The role will include identifying and developing new opportunities, shaping technical proposals, managing the bid process, and ensuring a smooth handover into project delivery.

This role bridges the gap between technical engineering and commercial execution - ideal for someone who enjoys combining client engagement with hands‑on technical and commercial involvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective clients, including network operators, utilities, and industrial partners.
  • Identify opportunities for engineering and innovation services across biomethane, hydrogen, and decarbonisation projects.
  • Manage and deliver pre‑qualification questionnaires (PQQs), invitations to tender (ITTs), and other formal bid submissions.
  • Lead the preparation of technical proposals, pricing schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop cost estimates and compile project pricing - including obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Work closely with engineering and CAD teams to produce preliminary designs, schematics, and concept layouts in support of bids.
  • Translate client needs into clear scopes of work, coordinating input from design, project management, and commercial colleagues.
  • Interface with the project management team to ensure smooth sales‑to‑delivery handovers, including technical, commercial, and contractual clarity.
  • Represent the business at client meetings, site visits, and industry events.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of sales processes, templates, and CRM use.
About You
  • Background in engineering (mechanical, chemical, process, EC&I or similar).
  • Strong technical understanding of gas, energy, or industrial systems.
  • Demonstrable experience in preparing and managing bids, tenders, or proposals.
  • Capable of developing cost estimates and interpreting supplier quotations to build competitive pricing.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to engage clients at technical and commercial levels.
  • Organised, self‑motivated, and able to manage multiple opportunities in parallel.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small, dynamic team.
Desirable
  • Experience in the gas, biomethane, or hydrogen sectors.
  • Familiarity with gas network procurement frameworks and tendering processes.
  • Understanding of project delivery lifecycles, from concept through to commissioning.
  • Proficiency with CRM and document management tools.
Why Apply
  • Work at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition and decarbonisation sector.
  • Be part of a collaborative, high‑performing team with a practical, delivery‑focused culture.
  • Competitive salary, performance‑based bonus, and professional development support.
  • Hybrid working model with flexibility and autonomy.
