Job summary

The Whitby Plumb Centre, part of Wolseley UK Limited, is seeking a proactive Sales Assistant to join our trade counter team. You’ll understand customers’ needs, recommend products and provide quotes to support building long-term relationships.

This full-time role offers a 40-hour week (Mon–Fri 8am–5pm, 1 in 2 Saturdays 8am–12pm), with bonus potential, pension matched up to 9%, healthcare and other staff benefits. Prior plumbing knowledge is beneficial but not essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in a face-to-face sales or customer service role.
• Strong communication and a customer-first approach.
• Ability to build relationships and drive repeat business.

Responsibilities

As a Sales Assistant based in our Whitby branch you’ll be responsible for:

• Serving customers on the trade counter by understanding their specific needs and providing product recommendations and quotations.
• Building relationships with customers with the aim of driving repeat business, enhancing customer experience, and maximising lifetime value Responding to customer enquiries via phone & email providing quotes promptly and courteously, with a proactive attitude.
• General warehouse duties including booking incoming stock onto the systems and putting it away and picking & packing customer orders.

Requirements

• Knowledge in plumbing & heating is beneficial
• Proven experience in a face to face sales/customer service position
• Great communication skills and a customer-first approach
• Great team player and willing to support in all areas of the branch
• A full UK Manual Driving licence is preferable

Working Hours & Contract

This is a full time, 40 hour permanent role – Monday to Friday between 8am – 5pm. Saturday working 1 in 2, 8am to 12pm, paid as overtime.
