Job description

Due to the expansion of our innovative team, we are delighted to offer multiple opportunities for rotational pharmacists. We welcome applications from trainee pharmacists due to qualify in January 2026, newly qualified pharmacists, community pharmacists, and those already working within hospital pharmacy or other sectors. We are seeking pharmacists who are committed to developing their clinical expertise and leadership skills, with a strong emphasis on patient‑centred care. This role offers the chance to collaborate with clinicians across sectors in East Sussex, supporting the advancement of practice and contributing to improved patient outcomes. Progression and development are key priorities for our department. Rotational pharmacists will benefit from experience across a wide range of specialties at both our main hospital sites and community locations, with opportunities to work alongside multi‑sector partners, including the local mental health trust. These rotations are designed to support career progression from post‑registration Foundation training through to Advanced Level Practice. We also offer structured support for personal and professional growth, including completion of the Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway, access to a funded Postgraduate Clinical Certificate in Pharmacy Practice, and future support in gaining an Independent Prescribing qualification. This post may be based at either Eastbourne District General Hospital or Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

Main duties of the job

East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Hastings/Eastbourne Rotational Band 6 Clinical Pharmacist.

The post includes rotations in surgical and medical areas with the potential for cancer services and a mental health rotation within Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Experience within these areas will build key clinical skills and provide an opportunity to develop into a confident practitioner with the support of an experienced pharmacy team.

Under the supervision of our specialist Independent Prescribing Pharmacists, you will work closely with consultants, other medical staff, nurses and pharmacy staff in ensuring that medicine use is safe, rational, effective and evidence based.

The post holder will provide a clinical pharmacy service to a group of wards on a rotational basis and support the dispensary in providing an efficient and timely service. The applicant will also need to join the department weekend and on‑call service on a rota basis following a period of orientation and induction. The successful candidate will be a Practice Supervisor for Trainee Pharmacists and Pharmacy undergraduates.
