Our vibrant and friendly nursery is looking for a fun, motivated and enthusiastic room lead to join our dedicated team at Highwood Nursery on a full-time, permanent basis. We would like to welcome a Room Leader (full-time permanent) to our established and friendly nursery team in Brockenhurst. Highwood Nursery is located in the New Forest and close to the village centre. There are places for babies, toddlers, and children up to the age of five years.

Highwood Nursery was rated ‘Good' by Ofsted in September 2025, so this is an exciting time to join us. You will work as part of a team to deliver high quality standards of childcare across the nursery, promoting partnerships with families and ensuring every child thrives in a safe and secure setting, providing sound foundations for life. As the Room Leader, you will assist with the organisation of the College Childcare facilities and premises.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure and take responsibility for the implementation of all relevant regulations and criteria within the Statutory Framework are adhered to at all times within the room.
  • Ensure the provision of a high-quality environment that meets the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of development.
  • Ensure and take responsibility for the implementation of all Nursery policies, procedures, health and safety and relevant legislation at all times within the room. Share in the responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children within the nursery, adhering to the College's Safeguarding and Whistleblowing policies.
  • Ensure and take responsibility for the organisation, preparation and planning of continuous provision ensuring it is of an appropriate nature relevant to individual needs of participating children. This includes the preparation of various resources, art activities, wall displays and enhanced free play etc in line with Government guidance and framework.
  • Have a high regard for the high profile of the nursery and uphold its standards at all times.
  • Ensure and take responsibility for mentoring and co-ordinating volunteers, students and apprentices who are undertaking any placements within the room.
  • Identify own and others training and professional development needs through discussion and observation. Motivate, support, and encourage staff, students and volunteers to ensure their individual needs are met.
Qualifications
  • A Full and relevant level 3 qualification e.g. NNEB Diploma, NVQ 3 in Childcare, CCLD, Btech or EYPW
  • At least 2 years' experience of working in a group care setting, taking the lead in supporting staff and parents in an identified area i.e. behaviour management, SENCO, CP etc.
  • Good knowledge of the EYFS and OFSTED regulations
  • Enjoyment of being with children aged 3 months – 5 years
  • Committed to high standards of work, review and continually improve the quality of service provided within the setting.
