Repairs & Maintenance Team Leader (Berwick)

Locations: Berwick (base location)

Contract: Permanent - Full Time

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: £45,055 per annum (Duty officer payment, giving the OTE circa £46,700)

Closing Date: 5pm on Monday 13th October 2025.

About the role

We are seeking a skilled Repairs & Maintenance Team Leader with practical experience and a strong commitment to the development of others. This role involves leading a dedicated team responsible for delivering building-related projects across Bernicia’s properties in the northeast region.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the team, initially focusing on supporting and driving delivery. We are looking for an individual with a positive and proactive approach to their work, demonstrating enthusiasm and professionalism at all times. As part of the team, you will contribute to facilitating organisational change and transforming strategic ideas into effective actions.

About you
Key Skills and Experience

Success in this role requires a comprehensive understanding of building construction and its components, as well as knowledge of the various building trades and relevant building regulations. Familiarity with methods for identifying and addressing damp and mould is beneficial, along with the capacity to understand and execute tasks in accordance with current legislation and industry standards.

Strong supervisory skills are essential in this role, encompassing the capacity to foster team development and optimise performance. The role requires achievement of performance targets and deadlines while upholding consistent standards in all areas of responsibility. Responsibilities include managing both internal staff and external contractors, necessitating effective leadership abilities. Additionally, the position demands a commitment to delivering services that meet customer expectations and offer value for money.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants are expected to possess up-to-date certifications, or a proven history of certification, relevant to key tasks within the role. These should include, but are not limited to, Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM), Working at Height, Asbestos Management, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH), PASMA (Prefabricated Access Suppliers' and Manufacturers' Association), First Aid, and Manual Handling. These qualifications demonstrate your ability to safely and effectively manage the various health and safety requirements associated with building and maintenance works.

In addition, you must hold a City & Guilds Craft Certificate, NVQ, or an equivalent qualification in a building-related trade or profession. This ensures that you have the practical knowledge and technical competency required to succeed in the role.

A full driving licence is essential, as the position requires travel between multiple sites across the northeast region.

Furthermore, candidates must be prepared to work outside of standard hours as part of a rota system, along with other team leaders, in order to provide necessary cover and support to the team.
