Matrix Providers is hiring a Registered Nurse- Pediatric to join our team of talented professionals providing healthcare services to Military Service Members and their families at Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth VA.

  • Employment Status: Full Time
  • Compensation: This is an hourly position., paid bi-weekly.
  • Schedule: Shifts will normally be scheduled for an eight and half (8.5) or nine (9) hour period.

Requirements:

  • Education: Associates Degree of Nursing.
  • Experience: Possess a minimum of one (1) year of experience within the last two (2) years as an RN working in a pediatric clinical setting.
  • Certifications: BLS. Possess and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Board Certification.
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Job Summary:

  • Provide tailored education to pediatric, acute chronic medical conditions, well baby, well child patients and their families about clinical findings, safe use of medications, wound care, access to community resources, use of medical equipment, and responsibilities of the patient and the family in the patient’s care. The education is tailored to the emotional and physical needs of each patient. Assist with check-in and check-out process.
  • Educate clinic patients and families about laboratory tests, medications, procedure preparation, and health promotion, based on the clinic physician’s plan of care for the patient.
  • Promote health maintenance and preventive health initiatives in caring for pediatric patients in the ambulatory setting.
  • Maintain liaison with multidisciplinary health care professionals and community referral services. Coordinate patient health care needs with appropriate referrals as indicated to include, but not limited to: social services, health benefits, and case management.
  • Use the nursing process to evaluate nursing needs of patients and collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to provide safe and effective care and education.
  • Maintain readiness of supplies, equipment, and patient education material while working with a physician in the clinic.
  • Assist the health care provider in performing medical procedures as needed. Observe patients undergoing treatment in the clinic for adverse reactions and assess the patient’s condition, reassess treatment, and/or notify the health care provider.
  • Respond on behalf of health care provider to referrals and requests for continued care from the Health Benefits Office and discharge planners once the patient has been discharged from the inpatient setting.
  • Ensure that nursing interventions are documented in patients’ charts, and as ambulatory nursing care workload.
  • Monitor patient flow in clinic along with licensed practical nurses (LPN) and corpsman staff under the supervision of the division officer and/or clinic manager.
