Job Description Registered Manager (Children's Home)

Location: Derby

Salary: Up to £60,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (x1 day WFH)

Reports to: Operations Manager / Responsible Individual (RI) & Directors

Liaises with: Senior Management Team, Education Staff, Care Staff, Young People, Families / Carers, External Professionals, Regulatory Bodies

Job Purpose

As the Registered Manager, you will have full legal and operational responsibility for the Children's Home in line with the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015. You will lead the home strategically and operationally, ensuring outstanding care, strong safeguarding practice, high staff performance and full regulatory compliance.

You will be accountable for the quality of care, safeguarding, staffing, financial management, complaints, health & safety and overall performance of the home. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to drive continuous improvement and deliver the organisations vision and values.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Delivery
  • Hold full responsibility as the Registered Manager under the Care Standards Act
  • Ensure full compliance with Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards
  • Lead the delivery of the Statement of Purpose and Certificate of Registration
  • Set, monitor and continuously improve standards of care
  • Ensure every young person has a robust, outcome-focused care plan
  • Take ultimate responsibility for placement stability and quality
  • Oversee and manage the home's complaints process
  • Ensure effective communication systems within the home and with education providers
Care, Safeguarding & Outcomes
  • Act as the lead safeguarding professional for the home
  • Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are fully embedded and followed
  • Protect young people from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation
  • Ensure young peoples voices are central to all care decisions
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, independence and resilience
  • Ensure children's needs are met at all times, including during crisis situations
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all areas of practice
Staff Leadership & Development
  • Provide strong, visible leadership to the full staff team
  • Line manage senior staff and ensure effective supervision at all levels
  • Ensure safe recruitment, performance management and disciplinary processes
  • Ensure all staff receive high-quality induction, training and appraisals
  • Develop a positive, accountable and high-performing staff culture
  • Promote leadership development and professional qualifications
Multi-Agency & Partnership Working
  • Work closely with social workers, education providers, therapists, psychologists and health professionals
  • Represent the home in reviews, audits and multi-agency forums
  • Build constructive working relationships with families / carers and partner agencies
  • Promote a strong therapeutic, multi-disciplinary approach to care
Finance, Resources & Compliance
  • Take full responsibility for budget management and financial control
  • Monitor ongoing expenditure and report to the Operations Manager
  • Ensure safe staffing levels and effective rota management
  • Maintain premises, vehicles and equipment to high standards
  • Ensure all recording, reporting and auditing systems meet regulatory requirements
  • Provide weekly and monthly management information reports
Additional Duties
  • Participate in the senior on-call rota
  • Support the strategic development of the wider organisation
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, guidance and best practice
  • Undertake any additional duties appropriate to the seniority of the role
Person Specification
Essential
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Residential Childcare (or recognised equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years experience in residential children's homes
  • Minimum 2 years management experience in a children's home
  • Strong knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted Inspection Framework
  • Proven experience applying policies and procedures in residential care
  • Confident safeguarding leadership capability
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and manage staff teams
  • Strong experience of inter-agency working
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise, manage time, resources and competing demands
  • Calm, decisive leadership in crisis situations
  • Emotional resilience, professionalism and accountability
Desirable
  • Experience working with young people with complex emotional, behavioural and mental health needs
  • Experience managing HR processes including disciplinaries and grievances
  • Experience delivering staff training and development
