Job summary

Biffa is seeking a Contract Supervisor to oversee the Somerset Recycling Centres from Priorswood Depot, Taunton. The role combines hands-on site activity with administration, reporting and people management across the contracted sites.

You will supervise site teams, ensure safe operations, manage resources within budgets, and drive performance while maintaining strong client relationships and compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

Qualifications

• Experience managing local authority contracts in recycling or waste management.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Proven track record leading large teams.
• Strong budget and resource management abilities.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations across the Somerset Recycling Centres, ensuring sites run safely and to the required standards.
• Lead, support and motivate Site Managers, Operatives and agency staff, ensuring staffing and performance levels.
• Ensure contract compliance with health & safety, environmental legislation and permits.
• Plan and organise staff, agency resources, equipment and other requirements within budgets.
• Drive recycling performance and operational efficiency in line with legislation.
• Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance with Facilities Management for safety and operation.
• Maintain strong relationships with client, customers, contractors and regulators.
• Monitor performance through audits, reporting, and corrective actions.
