Job summary

Biffa Waste Services is seeking an Operations Manager for the Melton Mowbray Depot to lead a team and ensure safe, reliable waste collections, recycling and street cleansing services. You will report to the Senior Business Manager, manage KPI delivery, and maintain high standards of customer service while complying with health and safety rules and contract requirements.

The role is Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours, with responsibilities for training staff, monitoring budgets, and coordinating with

Qualifications

• People and health & safety management in a unionised environment.
• Proven track record delivering service delivery KPIs.
• Experience of vehicle management.
• Proven track record of delivering continuous improvement within an operational/service environment.
• Experience producing and analysing reports using Microsoft Office.
• General knowledge of environmental responsibilities and health and safety legislation.
• Able to deal with conflict and negotiate/manage outcomes.
• Analytical with the ability to measure & monitor data and take corrective action.

Responsibilities

• Ensure that all Health and Safety, Biffa policies and procedures and legal obligations are understood and followed by all staff, with up-to-date training records.
• Develop and maintain relationships with the client and customers; attend meetings; deliver reports on contract progress.
• Work with the Senior Business Manager to meet financial targets including overtime, staffing levels and revenue.
• Support staff training and ensure induction and up-to-date job descriptions.
• Supervise operation/depot performance, address issues promptly per policy.
• Review waste collections and street cleansing to continuously improve efficiency and financial performance.
• Ensure equipment is operated safely with proper maintenance and training.
• Maintain records and KPI reporting; respond to data requests and ad hoc information needs.
• Assist the company in achieving its business objectives and procedures.
