StationLane Medical Centre is a busy, friendly NHS GP surgery based in the NorthWakefield area, with a registered patient list size of 8200. Due to a re -organisationalstructure, we are excited at the opportunity to recruit an organised, reliable,compassionate receptionist. You will be the first point of contact for ourpatients, providing a professional and welcoming service both in person andover the telephone.
Main duties of the job
- Answering and directing patient enquiries via telephone, online requests and at the front desk
- Booking, amending and cancelling appointments using the clinical system
- Supporting care navigation by signpostingpatients to the most appropriate service
- Processing repeat prescription requests andhandling routine administrative tasks
- Always maintaining patient confidentiality andfollowing practice policies and procedures
- Working closely with GPs, nurses and the widerpractice team to support safe, efficient patient care

Applicants should meet thefollowing criteria:Previous experience in a GP practice or healthcare setting is desirable but not essential, as full training will beprovided
Strong IT and keyboard skills, with the abilityto learn new systems
Self-motivated and a positive attitude with goodattention to detail and the ability to follow protocols
Good communication and customer service skills
A calm, empathetic manner, especially whenunder pressure

Job responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice administration team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Operations or Business manager, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels. This list is none exhaustive:
- Opening up/locking up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system
- Processing in person and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations, and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate health care professional
- Checking PATCHs or equivalent and passing on to the appropriate clinician
- Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail
- Taking messages and passing on information
- Filing and retrieving paperwork
- Processingrepeatsprescriptionsin accordance withpracticeguidelines
- Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording informationin accordance withpracticeprocedures
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers
- Clearing and re-stocking ofconsulting rooms asrequired
- Providing clericalassistancetopracticestaff asrequiredfrom time to time, including word/data processing, filing,photocopyingand scanning
- Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors asrequired; loading and emptying the dishwasher and keeping the kitchen area clean and tidy

- Managing recalls and LTC lists and invites as per administrative role the individual is trained for.

- Qualifications and training
- Good general education (e.g. GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths)
