Job description
Job Overview

This is a great opportunity to join our fantastic team in the Dyson Cancer Centre.

You will provide an appropriate “front of house” service to all patients who are undergoing consultation/treatment, principally with the RUH Haematology Oncology Department.

You will also provide a full comprehensive reception, bookings and clerical service in support of the professional staff involved in patient care.

Main duties of the job
  • Receive patients and relatives at reception in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Answer all telephone enquiries, taking and relaying messages in a polite and helpful manner, taking action as appropriate.
  • To maintain patient details / appointments efficiently on the patient administration system. This will include the registration of patient referral letters and statusing of clinics.
  • To book new and follow up outpatient appointments including virtual appointments and ensure all patients are advised of their appointments with reasonable notice or after negotiation with the patient.
  • To cancel and rebook follow up patients on clinics as directed by senior outpatient staff.
  • To monitor and action the department’s generic email inbox.
  • To book interpreters when required.
  • To liaise with nurses, doctors, GP’s and other members of the department to provide a quality service for the patients.
  • Be aware of and adhere to national waiting times targets when scheduling patient appointments.
  • To carry out other clerical duties as required; this will include, sending and receipt of faxes, photocopying, filing of referrals, appointment letters, opening and sorting of post, copying and distribution of patient information leaflets.
  • To provide administrative support from the reception desk and the admin office for the whole department as required and undertake any additional duties as requested by senior outpatient and management.
