Job summary

Desian Education are working with a highly regarded three-form entry primary school in Widnes, seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join the EYFS team on a full-time, long-term basis with immediate start.

You will provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Reception-aged pupil with ASD, non-verbal, focusing on communication, learning access, and engagement throughout the day, in a supportive school environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a pupil with ASD in an EYFS setting.
  • Ability to implement Makaton and PECS to aid communication.
  • Committed to inclusive education and safeguarding procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Build a trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Adapt learning materials to suit her needs.
  • Promote inclusive teaching and learning practices.
  • Support speech and language development using Makaton and PECS.
  • Use communication strategies to encourage independence.
  • Support behaviour and respond to sensory needs.
  • Implement movement and sensory breaks as required.
  • Assist with personal and intimate care when needed.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and school team.

Reception Class Teaching Assistant SEND - Widnes

Desian Education are proud to be working in partnership with a highly regarded three-form entry primary school in Widnes, situated at the heart of its local community.

The school are looking to appoint an experienced and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive EYFS team on a full-time, long-term temporary basis, with an immediate start available.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school and make a genuine difference to the learning, communication and development of a Reception-aged pupil.

Your New Role:

Working closely with an experienced Reception class teacher and the wider EYFS team, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support to a young female pupil with SEN.

The pupil has a dual diagnosis of ASD and is non-verbal, requiring consistent, personalised support throughout the school day. You will play an integral role in helping her access learning, develop communication skills and engage positively with the school environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support throughout the school day.
  • Building a strong, trusting relationship with the pupil.
  • Adapting learning materials and activities to suit her individual attainment and learning style.
  • Promoting inclusive teaching and learning practices.
  • Supporting speech and language development through Makaton and PECS.
  • Using appropriate communication strategies to encourage independence and engagement.
  • Supporting positive behaviour and responding appropriately to sensory needs and triggers.
  • Implementing movement and sensory breaks where required.
  • Supporting the pupil to regulate and re-engage with learning.
  • Assisting with personal and intimate care where required.
  • Working collaboratively with the class teacher and wider school team.
