A supportive 1 form entry primary school in Wigan is seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team. This role is specifically focused on supporting a child in Reception with additional learning needs, ensuring they have a positive and inclusive start to their school journey.
This is a 1:1 position where you will become a consistent, calming presence for a single pupil. Your primary goal is to bridge the gap between the child's individual needs and the classroom environment, helping them access the EYFS curriculum at their own pace.
Individualised Support: Implement tasks set out in the child's Individual Education Plan (IEP) or EHCP.
Social & Emotional Development: Help the pupil navigate social interactions with peers and manage emotional regulation.
Communication Support: Use visual aids (such as PECS or Now-and-Next boards) to help the child understand the daily routine.
Personalised Learning: Break down classroom instructions into manageable, sensory-friendly activities.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Class Teacher, SENCO, and external therapists to monitor and report on progress.
Experience: Proven experience working with children with SEN (Autism, ADHD, or Speech & Language difficulties).
Skills: Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and sensory-based learning.
Attributes: Resilience, empathy, and a genuine desire to see every child succeed regardless of their barriers to learning.
Qualifications: Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is essential, and relevant experience is paramount.
This position is subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional reference checks
