Job summary

Luma Education Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA for a SEND specialist provision in Manchester. You will support a small class of around 12 pupils with complex needs on a full academic year contract, 8:00am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

You will work under a SEND teacher with two other staff, providing 1:1 and small-group support, and helping with routines, interventions and outdoor activities.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare.
• Experience as Teaching Assistant or HLTA in a school.
• Experience with SEND and complex needs.
• Direct school-based SEND experience required.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND.
• Support learning, communication, independence and social development.
• Help create a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment.

Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Teaching Assistant or HLTA to join a welcoming SEND specialist provision within a primary school for the full academic year.

This is an excellent opportunity for a caring, experienced and genuinely team-focused Teaching Assistant or HLTA who enjoys working with children with additional needs and wants to become part of a supportive specialist classroom team.

You will be working within a small classroom of approximately 12 pupils with complex and additional needs, supporting children who require a more specialist environment than can be provided within a mainstream classroom.

The school has a strong SEND team in place and is looking for someone kind, reliable, experienced and positive to strengthen the provision and bring additional SEND expertise to the classroom.

The Role

Working alongside an experienced SEND teacher and two other support staff, you will:

• Provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEND and complex needs

This is not a standalone teaching role. You will work under the direction of an experienced SEND teacher, with plenty of opportunity to use your own skills and experience while developing further within specialist education.

About the Classroom

The provision is a small specialist classroom supporting pupils with complex needs, currently with around 12 children, with numbers expected to increase.

The classroom team includes:

• An experienced, fully qualified SEND teacher
• A member of staff with a strong SEND background
• A member of staff with an Early Years background

The successful candidate will provide additional school-based SEND experience and expertise

The school is looking for someone who will fit naturally into the team — someone caring, approachable, dependable and genuinely passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

The Ideal Candidate

You will ideally have:

• Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare or a related area
• Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA, SEN TA or Learning Support Assistant
• Direct school-based experience supporting pupils with SEND
• Experience working with children who have complex or additional needs
• A good understanding of individualised support and differentiated learning
• The confidence to support children both independently and as part of a wider team
• A patient, calm and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• A genuine commitment to helping children develop academically, socially and emotionally
• Experience supporting pupils with ASD/ASC, ADHD, communication needs, learning difficulties, behavioural needs or other complex SEND would be particularly useful.

Please note: The school is specifically looking for candidates with direct experience supporting SEND pupils within a school setting. Experience gained solely through outreach, council inclusion work or similar settings may not meet the requirements of the role.
