Job summary

Luma Education Recruitment is seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a strong English background to join a SEND school in Silverstone, Northamptonshire.

The role is full-time, maternity cover, with potential for a temp-to-perm opportunity. You will plan and deliver English lessons, support pupils with reading, writing and communication, and work closely with teachers and support staff to provide personalised learning in a small, supportive setting.

Qualifications

• Strong English subject knowledge and experience delivering English lessons.
• Experience planning and preparing learning activities for diverse learners.
• Experience working with SEND/SEN/SEMH pupils is highly desirable.

Luma Education Recruitment is recruiting for an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a strong English background to join a supportive and welcoming SEND school in Silverstone, Northamptonshire.

Set within a stunning rural location, this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HLTA, English Tutor, Cover Supervisor or experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role within a small specialist school where staff work closely together and pupils receive a high level of individual support.

The role involves planning, preparing and delivering English lessons and learning activities, while working as part of a close-knit team alongside experienced teachers and support staff.

The current position is initially offered as maternity cover, with the potential for a temp-to-perm opportunity once the maternity contract comes to an end, subject to suitability and the school's requirements.

The Role

As an English HLTA, you will take an active role in planning and delivering learning, supporting pupils across a range of abilities and adapting your approach to meet individual SEND needs.

You will not be working in isolation. The school has a strong team ethos, with teachers, support staff and leadership working closely together to provide consistent and personalised support for pupils.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Planning and preparing engaging English lessons and learning activities
• Delivering English sessions to individuals and small groups
• Supporting pupils with reading, writing, spelling, grammar and communication
• Adapting teaching and resources to meet individual SEND needs
• Supporting pupils working towards Functional Skills and wider English qualifications where appropriate
• Taking responsibility for lessons or learning activities when required
• Working closely with teachers to plan and deliver effective learning
• Supporting pupils' EHCP outcomes and individual learning targets
• Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
• Encouraging confidence, independence and engagement
• Supporting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm learning environment
• Monitoring pupil progress and providing feedback
• Working collaboratively with the wider school team

About You

The school is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic HLTA / Higher Level Teaching Assistant who is confident supporting and delivering English.

You may currently be working as an:

• Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
• Experienced Teaching Assistant
• Learning Support Assistant
• English-focused education professional

You will ideally have:

• Strong English subject knowledge
• Experience planning and delivering learning activities
• Previous experience working with children or young people
• Confidence teaching or supporting English
• Experience working with SEND / SEN / SEMH pupils is highly desirable
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach
• Strong communication and classroom management skills
• The ability to adapt learning for different abilities and needs
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils' academic and personal development
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
