Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a Rail Systems Lead Design Manager for the HS2 Track infrastructure project. The role focuses on systems integration, design management, and alliance coordination from the initial design phase to ensure cost and schedule goals are met.

Based in London, Euston or Birmingham, Snow Hill, you will coordinate interfaces between track systems and design partners, drive spatial coordination, and lead governance activities while integrating health and safety and system safety

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in rail systems design, integration, and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience working within contractor-led, design and build or alliance delivery environments is preferred
• Experience working within large-scale rail infrastructure programmes.
• Experience managing external design organisations and consultant teams
• Strong understanding of design management processes within major rail or infrastructure projects.
• Experience managing design interfaces and spatial coordination in complex environments.
• Knowledge of technical assurance, systems engineering, and safety assurance principles.
• Understanding of Health and Safety in Design requirements and industry best practice.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate technical interfaces between Track systems, Main Works Contractors and Alliance members.
• Lead and manage the spatial coordination of rail systems designs produced by design partners and alliance members.
• Establish and maintain design coordination processes and manage design clashes to support delivery.
• Chair and facilitate design coordination meetings, workshops, and reviews with stakeholders.
• Monitor and report design progress ensuring delivery aligns with client requirements, standards, and milestones.
• Coordinate technical assurance activities related to spatial coordination and integrated design delivery.
• Ensure designs are reviewed, verified, and validated per governance requirements and standards.
• Coordinate Health and Safety in Design principles across all rail systems disciplines.
