Job summary

BAM UK & Ireland is seeking a Rail Systems Lead Design Manager to drive integration of track systems across the HS2 programme. Based in London or Birmingham, you will coordinate interfaces between track, contractors, and design partners, ensuring robust design coordination and timely delivery.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, uphold health and safety in design, and govern design assurance across alliances, with a strong focus on cost, schedule, and client requirements.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in rail systems design, integration, and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience in contractor-led, design and build or alliance delivery environments is preferred.
• Experience managing design interfaces and spatial coordination in large-scale rail infrastructure programmes.
• Knowledge of design management processes, governance, and safety assurance principles.
• Membership of a professional institution and active pursuit of chartership is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate technical interfaces between Track systems, main works contractors, design partners and alliance members.
• Lead and manage the spatial coordination of rail systems designs produced by partners and third parties.
• Chair and facilitate design coordination meetings, workshops and reviews with stakeholders.
• Monitor design progress and ensure delivery aligns with client requirements, standards and milestones.
• Coordinate health and safety in design principles across all rail systems disciplines.
• Coordinate system safety activities and ensure safety requirements are integrated into the design development process.
• Support design governance and assurance activities across the Alliance.
