Job summary

A leading Civil Engineering firm is seeking a Quantity Surveyor in Watford to manage cost control processes and produce accurate financial reports. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Quantity Surveying, strong communication skills, and experience in the construction industry. Qualifications

Job description

Our client, a leading Civil Engineering and Infrastructure specialist, is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join their team in Watford.

Responsibilities
  • Produce accurate and timely cost, value, and cash‑flow reports.
  • Manage cost control processes, including forecasting and monthly CVR updates.
  • Ensure adherence to internal commercial procedures and support process improvements.
  • Review and manage contract terms, identifying and mitigating commercial risks.
  • Engage and manage the supply chain with appropriate contract conditions.
  • Lead subcontract procurement, negotiation, and financial administration.
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders on commercial matters, including variations and claims.
  • Collaborate with site teams to forecast spend and cash recovery, ensuring alignment with targets.
  • Support site teams with best practices and effective cost management.
Required Experience
  • Previous experience in the construction industry
  • HND/degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying
  • Familiarity with ICE/NEC forms of contract and knowledge and understanding of Construction Law
  • Previous experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates, and accruals calculations.
  • Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis.
  • Have knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis.
  • Excellent communication, numeric and computer literacy skills, proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and delegate, but also able to work on own initiative
Desirable
  • Member of RICS or other relevant professional body, or working towards
  • CSCS card
