Location : Nuneaton (Hybrid / Remote Working Available)

Salary : £50,000 - £60,000 D.O.E (plus car allowance)

About the Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you’ll work closely with the Commercial Director, taking ownership of the commercial management of projects across the UK. You’ll be trusted to operate autonomously, managing contracts, monitoring performance and ensuring commercial objectives are met from tender stage through to final account.

This role has a strong interface with both the Estimating and Finance teams and is well suited to a commercially aware Quantity Surveyor who enjoys responsibility, client interaction and being involved across the full project lifecycle.

The key requirements for this Quantity Surveyor role are :
  • Manage commercial aspects of projects from procurement through to final account
  • Review, negotiate and agree subcontract conditions, primarily under NEC and JCT contracts
  • Monitor costs, revenue and profitability across live projects
  • Prepare, submit and manage applications for payment and resolve any disputed or late payments
  • Manage subcontract accounts, including procurement, valuations and final accounts
  • Identify, value and agree variations and additional works
  • Prepare and present commercial forecasts, CVRs and margin reports
  • Support preparation of loss and expense claims and dispute resolution where required
  • Liaise closely with Estimating and Contracts teams to manage risk and ensure company objectives are achieved
  • Visit sites regularly to monitor performance and identify commercial risk
  • Support and mentor junior commercial staff where required
Experience required for this Quantity Surveyor role are :
  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or construction
  • Strong understanding of NEC and JCT forms of contract – able to negotiate and finalise compensation events
  • Experience managing subcontract accounts from procurement to final account
  • High level of commercial awareness with strong numeracy skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to negotiate and liaise with clients effectively
  • Experience working for both main contractors and subcontractors is advantageous
  • Strong IT skills and experience using project costing or commercial software
  • Ability to work autonomously and make informed commercial decisions
Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Quantity Surveyor role are :
  • Background in piling, geotechnical or specialist subcontracting environments
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline
  • Experience preparing adjudication or dispute resolution documentation
  • Understanding of construction plant, materials and processes
  • Chartered is preferred but not a deal breaker
