Our client, a major civil engineering contractor, is partnering with Thames Water on a variety of water and wastewater projects and has exciting opportunities for individuals to join their growing delivery team, working predominantly across the Thames Valley and Thames South regions. Projects range from small capital maintenance works to large-scale civil engineering schemes.

Quantity Surveyor

To provide accurate, commercially focused input across a diverse project portfolio. You will ensure that all commercial activities are delivered in line with contractual requirements, company policies, and client expectations. This role may operate independently or under the guidance of a Senior Quantity Surveyor, and you will be expected to work effectively as part of an integrated project team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective management of commercial notices and correspondence, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely submission.
  • Prepare or assess applications, valuations, and cost/value reconciliations.
  • Lead on cost control and forecasting; provide inputs to monthly reports including value, cost, profit/loss, cash flow, and budget updates.
  • Prepare and agree applications for payment, and assess or prepare payment certificates.
  • Support risk and value management activities, regularly reviewing commercial risks with the project team and developing appropriate responses.
  • Manage contracts in line with relevant contractual forms, budgetary control processes, and associated software systems.
  • Prepare supply chain enquiries and negotiate, administer, and close out supply chain contracts.
  • Ensure all contract notifications and documents are managed in line with contractual and company requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing liaison with site teams, subcontractors, and client representatives.
  • Ensure any health, safety, or environmental risks are promptly escalated to the Contract Leader or Project Manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen.
  • A practical, logical, and methodical approach to work.
  • Experience in setting up and/or operating office management systems, including filing and document control processes.
  • Experience in taking technical minutes at contractual meetings, collating information, and producing reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft contractual correspondence, prepare payment certificates, and compile interim financial reports.
  • Strong negotiation and teamwork skills with the ability to motivate and lead.
  • Solid understanding of legal, contractual, and construction principles.
Qualifications
Essential
  • RICS or CICES-accredited degree, or currently enrolled on an accredited part‑time postgraduate degree, with at least three years of relevant experience.
Desirable
  • Full membership of RICS or CICES, or active participation in an approved training scheme leading to membership.
