Overview

Senior Engineer at Arup – Process Engineering, specialising in municipal and industrial water & wastewater treatment. You will work across the project lifecycle, from concept design to detailed design, coordinating interdisciplinary teams in highly regulated sectors and delivering high‑quality, budget‑conscious solutions.

What You’ll Do

• Co‑coordinate the work of other engineers and liaise with cross‑disciplinary teams.
• Develop mass and energy balances, process data sheets, control philosophies and commissioning plans.
• Write reports, fee proposals and feasibility studies of plant operating and capital costs.
• Support design and review of digital solutions, including analysis and design software.
• Ensure compliance with highly regulated gated design and project delivery processes.

Qualifications & Experience

• Design experience of fixed and suspended growth systems, anaerobic treatment of biosolids and high‑strength effluent, biogas handling and upgrading, membrane separation, solids filtration, disinfection, oxygenation, thermal hydrolysis, nutrient removal processes, chemical storage and dosing systems.
• Experience of HazOp, DSEAR, COMAH, SIL determination, flammable gas handling and compression.
• Proficient in Biowin/GPS‑X modelling software and other current analysis/design tools.
• Acted as process designer in HazOp teams and chaired HazOp studies.
• Created plant layouts, PIDs, GA, energy/mass balances, feasibility studies and cost estimates.
• Line‑management responsibilities – supporting engineers and early‑career staff.
• Strong collaborative skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Digital mindset and proficiency with relevant software.
