Job Title: Project Manager - Civil Engineering

Location: Stratford, East London

Salary: £75,000 - £85,000 + Package

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: Full Time (45 hours per week)

Project Manager - Major Infrastructure Projects (Civils / Utilities / Water / Rail)

A well-established tier-one civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver multiple high-value infrastructure projects across East London.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the full project lifecycle—from pre-construction through to handover—ensuring safe delivery on time, within budget, and to quality standards. You'll coordinate site teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders, taking ownership of programming, commercial performance, and technical resolution.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver a portfolio of projects, ensuring programme, cost, and quality targets are achieved
  • Develop and maintain detailed project programmes (Primavera P6) and lookahead plans
  • Lead site teams and ensure effective management of engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Chair weekly progress meetings, manage client expectations, and produce accurate reporting
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures
  • Manage temporary works, site investigations, and technical challenges during construction
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met, including NEC3/4 early warnings and compensation events
  • Oversee preparation of handover documents, as-builts, ITPs, and O&M manuals
Key Requirements

Essential:

  • Extensive experience as a Project Manager within civil engineering - ideally in water, utilities, heavy civils, or rail
  • Strong understanding of NEC3/4 contract administration
  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor experience
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 and short-term planning
  • HNC / Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • CSCS Manager's Card, SMSTS, NEBOSH Construction Certificate
  • Strong commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills
  • Subcontractor management and cost control experience

Desirable:

  • Experience working on Thames Water or similar regulated infrastructure frameworks
  • Rail experience and understanding of NRSWA requirements
  • Appointed Person (Lifting) qualification
  • CEng MICE or working toward chartership
  • Familiarity with JCT forms of contract
