Programme Facilitator – Probation Service

Are you passionate about rehabilitation? As a Programme Facilitator you will deliver a range of evidence‑based rehabilitation interventions to people on probation, aiming to reduce re‑offending, protect the public and help offenders build constructive lives in the community.

Responsibilities, Activities & Duties
  • Plan and deliver interventions in groups or individually, creating a therapeutic and safe environment that accommodates different learning styles and abilities.
  • Adhere to statutory safeguarding responsibilities for children and adults and multi‑agency public protection policies.
  • Manage group dynamics and address problematic behaviour to achieve learning outcomes.
  • Monitor suitability, risk, safety and wellbeing throughout the intervention and provide informed, evidence‑based recommendations.
  • Record accurate attendance, feedback, risk issues and relevant reports to meet quality‑assurance requirements.
  • Communicate progress and concerns to Probation Practitioners, courts and other stakeholder agencies.
  • Deliver workshops and briefings to Probation staff and external stakeholders on intervention content and purpose.
  • Model pro‑social behaviour consistently and challenge anti‑social attitudes.
  • Participate in video‑monitoring feedback sessions to review practice and undertake professional development.
Qualifications

Ability

  • High level literacy skills – read, understand and interpret policies; write reports and correspondence.
  • Confident orally in English; Welsh acceptable where specified in Wales.

Experience

  • Managing challenging behaviour, including from individuals with complex social or personal difficulties.
  • Collaborative working and maintaining effective team relationships.
  • Understanding of the criminal justice system, safeguarding principles and sentencing for people on probation.
  • Assessing and analysing information from diverse sources to make decisions.
  • Commitment to promoting equality and valuing diversity.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite.
  • Applying new learning to improve performance.

Technical

  • Complete an Assessment Centre prior to training.
  • Become an Accredited Programme Facilitator by completing required training programmes.
Training & Assessment

Successful candidates will undertake a comprehensive training programme covering theory and practice of all accredited interventions, followed by a 6‑month probationary period and annual competency assessment.

Working Arrangements

Roles require travelling across a regional area and unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends. Work is full‑time (37 hours per week) with possibilities for part‑time and flexible arrangements where suitable.
