Job description

Senior Legal Counsel - Product (Borrowing) reporting to the Director of Legal, Products. The role is central to building and delivering mortgage and consumer finance products, providing first-rate legal advice to Monzo's Borrowing collective.

• Work with product managers, engineers and senior lawyers to advise on legal and regulatory aspects of borrowing products.
• Provide advice on mortgage, credit card, loan, overdraft and business lending products, ensuring compliance with CCA, MCOBS and other financial legislation.
• Support incident and query handling for consumer credit compliance and financial difficulty matters.
• Collaborate with compliance, risk, operations and other internal teams to coordinate legal matters.
• Deliver training and knowledge sharing sessions across the organisation.
• Act autonomously as the senior legal advisor on product changes, proactively identifying risks and shaping policy.
• Build a scalable, high-performing legal function, experimenting with new ways of working and technology solutions.
• Manage relationships with external suppliers and law firms, driving cost optimisation.
• Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in banking and finance, with a focus on mortgages and consumer finance.
• Strong background advising on regulatory and commercial matters for banking products; proven knowledge of CCA, MCOBS and financial promotions.
• Experience drafting customer-facing terms, credit agreements and regulatory compliance documents.
• Excellent communication, organisational, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Proactive risk-aware mindset with ability to drive commercial solutions.
