Job summary

Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Durham, is seeking a Prison Education Teacher to deliver ESOL, Barbering, Construction and Digital Skills programs. This part-time role (18.5 hours per week) is based on site at Durham, with DBS checks and safeguarding commitments central to the post.

You will join a team delivering high-quality education within a secure environment, contributing to learners’ rehabilitation and positive progression.

Qualifications

• Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
• Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
• Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
• Have previous track record showing achievement of quality targets
• Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
• Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Can motivate and enthuse learners
• Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Durham, working as a Prison Education Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, part-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week.

The role is to provide delivery across the ESOL, Barbering, Construction & Digital Skills programs within HMP Durham following a number of changes in staffing profiles on site.

HMP Durham is a Category B men's prison located in Durham, England. The team's aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:
