Job summary

Novus, the LTE Group prison education provider, is seeking a Construction Teacher at HMP Deerbolt to deliver vocational lessons in joinery, bricklaying and painting, on a 6 months fixed-term, full-time basis.

You will plan and deliver practical sessions in a secure environment, supporting learners to develop trades, knowledge and safe working practices, with the aim of helping them progress towards employment on release.

Qualifications

  • Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Demonstrate ability to create stimulating learning environments and maintain quality targets

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging vocational lessons within a prison education setting, covering joinery, bricklaying and painting and decorating
  • Plan and deliver practical, skills-based sessions to develop trade skills and safe working practices

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Deerbolt, working as a Construction Teacher. This role is offered on a 6 months fixed-term contract, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

You will deliver engaging vocational lessons within a prison education setting on a fixed-term basis, covering joinery, bricklaying, and painting and decorating. The role involves planning and delivering practical, skills-based sessions that support learners to develop trade skills, knowledge, and safe working practices in a secure environment. You will work with learners from a range of backgrounds, providing structured support to help them achieve qualifications, build confidence, and progress towards employment on release.

Site Information

HMP Deerbolt is a Category C, Training Prison for Adult Males located near Barnard Castle, County Durham. The prison provides educational programs, vocational training, workshops, healthcare services, and sports facilities. These initiatives are geared towards equipping inmates with skills and support for reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have previous track record showing achievement of quality targets
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
