Job summary

Novus is recruiting a Prison Education Teacher for HMP Durham on a permanent, part-time basis (18.5 hours per week). You will deliver ESOL, Barbering, Construction and Digital Skills programs across the site, creating engaging lessons and supporting learners to reach their potential.

The role requires commitment to safeguarding and DBS checks; outstanding teaching qualifications and a proven ability to motivate learners are essential.

Qualifications

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Have experience in creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have previous track record showing achievement of quality targets
  • Have successfully produced accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Can motivate and enthuse learners
  • Have organisational skills to prioritise workload to meet deadlines and targets
  • Demonstrate positive team working

Responsibilities

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Durham, working as a Prison Education Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, part-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week.

The role is to provide delivery across the ESOL, Barbering, Construction & Digital Skills programs within HMP Durham following a number of partial resignations and changes in staffing profiles on site.

HMP Durham is a Category B men's prison located in Durham, England. The team's aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
