Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to lead HV cabling design for high-profile 400kV projects within the UK and Continental Europe. You will drive design delivery from tender through handover and provide essential technical support across the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities include design reviews, plant specifications, and coordination with clients, subcontractors and other engineering functions.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Power Engineering.
• Experience with consultancy, contractor or utility in the energy sector.
• Extensive experience in a cable related role supporting FEED design and/or detailed design.
• Able to manage and lead HV/EHV cable designs at all projects stages.
• Experienced user of CYMCAP to support cable system design.
• Experience of working at EHV transmission voltages.
• Experience in the design of HV and EHV cable systems, for both HVAC and HVDC systems.
• Familiarity with National Grid and DNO standards and processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design and design review, estimation, site supervision and support as required.
• Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare plant and equipment technical specification, power cable route specifications, tender specifications, technical and progress reports.
• Ensure correct interface with other engineering functions; attend meetings with colleagues, clients and subcontractors.
• Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating, TMF and EMF calculations, sheath induced voltage calculations.
• Perform design reviews and verification of design.
• Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations, legislation and procedures.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Maintain relations with client/designer/team and supply chain.
