Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Principal Cable System Engineer to lead design delivery for HV/EHV cable systems up to 400kV across UK projects. You will drive technical specifications, provide expert support, and ensure compliant, deliverable designs while coordinating with clients and subcontractors.

Your role involves detailed calculations, design reviews, and maintaining interface across engineering teams, with an emphasis on FEED-to-detailed design progression and project handover.

Qualifications

• Experience with HV/EHV cable design across FEED and detailed design stages.
• Ability to perform technical calculations (cable size, ratings, TMF/EMF, sheath-induced voltages).
• Strong leadership and ability to manage multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
• Familiarity with National Grid/DNO standards and interfaces with clients/subcontractors.

Responsibilities

• Develop HV/EHV cable system specifications and design reviews.
• Provide technical support across HV cable system engineering and design.
• Prepare technical specs, cable route specs, and tender documents.
• Interface with other engineering functions and clients/subcontractors.
• Perform design verification and ensure regulatory/CDM compliance.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes and site supervision.
