Job description
Overview

We are working with a consultancy looking for an enthusiastic Principal Highway Designer to join our expanding team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of development planning projects across the UK, supporting schemes from concept through to delivery.

What you’ll be doing
  • Preparing preliminary designs for highway links, junctions, active travel corridors, and traffic calming schemes.
  • Producing swept path analyses and vehicle tracking assessments.
  • Contributing to technical reports, including site access appraisals, Stage 1 Road Safety Audit briefs, Designer’s Responses, and S278 Preliminary Design Check submissions.
What we’re looking for
  • Minimum of 5 years’ highway design experience with strong AutoCAD skills.
  • Ideally, experience using Civil 3D.
  • Solid understanding of highway design guidance, including MfS, DMRB, and LTN 1/20.
  • Proficiency with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions and Traffic Signs Manual.
  • Experience with S278/S38 Agreements.
  • Knowledge of SPONS Civil Engineering and Highway Works.
  • Awareness of traffic modelling and its role in shaping highway design.
  • Professional qualifications (EngTech / IEng / CEng) and membership of ICE, CIHT, or CILT (desirable).
