Year 1 ASD one-to-one Teaching Assistant - Preston

Full Time, Monday-Friday, 9:00am-3:00pm

Start Date: Thursday 5th February 2026 – July 2026

Pay: £13.68-£16phA warm and nurturing primary school in Preston is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide personalised support for a Year 1 pupil with ASD. The role will begin on Thursday 5th February 2026 and will run until the end of the academic year (July 2026).

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a child's school experience while becoming part of a friendly, supportive school community.

About the Role

Providing 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with ASD, helping them to engage, learn, and participate in school life.

Hours: 9:00am-3:00pm, Monday to Friday

Working closely with the class teacher and SEND team to implement tailored strategies and adapt learning activities.

Supporting the child's communication, emotional regulation, confidence, and independence.

Assisting with routines, transitions, and creating a calm, structured learning environment.

Ongoing support throughout the placement from Skye Harrison, Consultant at Veritas Education.

What We're Looking For

The school is seeking a patient, caring, and proactive Teaching Assistant who can build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil.

Essential qualities include:
  • Previous experience supporting pupils in a primary or SEND setting
  • Understanding of ASD and strategies that encourage engagement and communication
  • A nurturing, calm, and consistent approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff and follow support plans
  • Strong communication, reliability, and a professional attitude
