Job description

A top-tier UK-based civil engineering and rail contractor is looking to recruit a Preconstruction Manager on their JV High Speed 2 (HS2) construction project in London.

The location of this work will be in South Ruislip.

Candidates with previous shaft/foundation experience are of particular interest.

As a Preconstruction Manager, you will be responsible for developing construction methodologies, providing technical support to procurement, reviewing design, and interfacing with design and subcontract representatives. Reporting to Project Manager.

The role will work on the HS2 project.

The Preconstruction Manager role will involve:

• Managing the preconstruction works for SRVS and MRVS.
• Procuring packages and supporting the commercial team in identifying and valuing change and managing risk.
• Ensuring the effective management of subcontracts.
• Mentoring and developing reporting engineers.

Responsibilities and Duties

The Preconstruction Manager duties and responsibilities will include:

• Developing procurement packages and supporting the PM and CM in the development of the procurement strategy.
• Managing the design and construction interface and identifying constructability issues.
• Supporting the Asset Agents in administering the main contract and identifying relevant risks and opportunities.
• Administering subcontracts and managing interfaces between packages of works.
• Leading safety management, ensuring compliance with statutory, company, and project requirements.
• Supporting the Temporary Works Coordinator and managing temporary works processes and site activities.
• Mentoring staff and developing their skills.
• Undertaking constructability reviews of design information.

Desired Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of Pre-construction experience.
• UK large contract experience (e.g., Crossrail/Tideway).
• Previous experience with shaft/foundations.
• Some design management experience.
• Internal building fit-out and MEP experience.
• Subcontractor management experience.
• Planning and integrating subcontractors.
• CSCS and SMSTS certifications.
• Great team player.
