A prominent NHS trust in the United Kingdom is seeking newly qualified midwives for a rotational position within their maternity service. This fixed-term role offers valuable hands-on experience and aims to provide safe, high-quality care during pregnancy, labour, and postpartum. Candidates must possess current NMC registration and be prepared to handle the physical, emotional, and psychological demands of this vital role.
Here at CHFT we are excited to advertise for newly qualified midwives with current NMC registration. The position will be a rotational post and the NQM will work throughout our maternity service gaining valuable experience as a newly qualified registrant. The position is a fixed term contract and will be for 12 months.

The post holder is required to have highly developed physical skills such as manual dexterity to perform abdominal palpation, vaginal examinations, taking blood samples, applying fetal scalp electrodes, performing episiotomies, responding rapidly to emergency situations such as haemorrhage or neonatal resuscitation, and the ability to run to the scene when necessary. There is a daily requirement to undertake moderate physical activity for several short periods less than 20 minutes at a time, including transferring mothers from bed to wheelchair or operating table, to bed (using a slide board), assisting women into the lithotomy position for instrumental deliveries, and maintaining awkward positions for less than 20 minutes when women give birth in standing, squatting, all fours or in a waterbirth pool.
Supporting women throughout the perinatal period requires psychological resilience, providing emotional and physical support. The midwife must be able to concentrate for long periods, typically 2–3 continuous hours, varying from every shift to once a week. Daily concentration is needed when checking and calculating drugs and inputting data into the computer. The post holder must practice self‑care for emotional and physical wellbeing and access support when required. Directly provides emotional and psychological support to women during pregnancy, labour and postpartum on a daily basis. Involvement in obstetric emergencies leads to exposure to highly distressing situations such as shoulder dystocia, birth asphyxia, postpartum haemorrhage at least once per week, and regular exposure to stressful situations such as unexpected transfer to a special care baby unit, fetal abnormalities, fetal or maternal death, or supporting women in labour who are having a termination of pregnancy. The role may include preparing a baby for mortuary.
The post holder is frequently exposed to challenging working conditions including bodily fluids, conflict management, shift work including nights, weekends, bank holidays, and on‑call models.
