Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Practice Nurse to join Primary Care at HMP Brixton, a Category B Prison located in the London Borough of Lambeth, in inner‑South London. Numerous training and development pathways, free parking on site and easy links to central London make HMP Brixton a rewarding working environment.

Hours

Monday to Friday – 09:00 to 17:00

Salary

Full time. Annual salary up to £55,086 per annum – depending on experience.

Candidate requirements

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK, and due to the nature of the role offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • Identify immediate health needs, including any external services or prescribing requirements that prisoners may have received prior to remand or repatriation onto a wing.
  • Facilitate arrangements between agencies involved in delivering a complex care package to ensure effective collaboration and stability for the patient in delivery of that care, working closely with in‑house services and other departments such as Pharmacy, Education, Offender Management, Substance Misuse and Physical Education.
  • Deliver continuity of care across health and social care agencies from courts, to custody and community, whilst improving communication between the above.
  • Inspire continuous improvement of MDT working across HMP and healthcare teams.

Requirements
  • NMC Registered Adult Nurse
  • Postgraduate experience in long‑term conditions or as a practice nurse
  • Knowledge of health and social care models across the criminal justice system
  • Experience of assessing the needs of, and working with individuals with complex health and social care needs
  • Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment is an advantage
