Overview

Practice Manager – Wickford – £35,000 - £50,000

An established and growing accountancy practice with a strong presence is looking to appoint a dedicated Office Manager. This is a key, trusted role within the business and will suit an experienced practice professional who enjoys responsibility, structure and improving how an office runs.

Role Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Wickford office to ensure efficient and professional service delivery
  • Manage job scheduling across the entire office, covering audit, accounts production, bookkeeping, VAT, MTD and outsourced services
  • Design and implement a new scheduling and workflow system to improve visibility, efficiency and deadlines
  • Act as a senior point of contact for internal queries and, where needed, client enquiries
  • Review work prepared by junior staff, primarily limited company accounts (typically £500k-£2m turnover), providing constructive feedback before partner review
  • Support client onboarding processes, engagement letters and document management
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements including AML and GDPR
  • Maintain secure, accurate and well-organised filing systems
  • Monitor and update filing deadlines to ensure all statutory obligations are met
  • Support recruitment, onboarding and staff training logistics
  • Manage holiday calendars, time off tracking and time recording
  • Assist partners with performance administration, fee analysis and job recovery
  • Oversee and optimise the use of practice systems including IRIS, Sage and TaxCalc, identifying opportunities to improve workflows through technology
Personal Requirements
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience working within an accountancy practice
  • Strong background in reviewing accounts work and supporting junior staff development
  • Highly organised with the confidence to manage competing deadlines across multiple service lines
  • Comfortable taking ownership of office operations and acting as a central hub for the team
  • Strong communication skills with both colleagues and clients
  • Proactive mindset with a genuine interest in improving processes and systems
