Job summary

Reed is seeking a Technical Support Engineer to join our engineering team, providing technical support to a nationwide depot network and customer sites across the UK. You will diagnose faults, assist with commissioning and upgrades, and mentor peers.

The role blends hands-on engineering with project support and a focus on safety and standards. Strong communication and a UK driving licence are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Qualified in mechanical or electrical engineering (City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC or equivalent).
• Apprenticeship or significant industry experience in power generation.
• Experience servicing and repairing generator sets.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of LV distribution and changeover systems.
• Field service or technical support background.
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to engineers and customers across multiple locations.
• Diagnose and resolve generator, electrical, and control system faults.
• Commission, repair, modify, and upgrade power generation equipment.
• Support introduction of new equipment and engineering improvements.
• Conduct site surveys, commissioning visits, and technical investigations.
• Assist with engineering training and mentoring activities.
• Support major projects and specialist customer requirements.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with procedures.
