Job description

We are looking for a motivated and collegial Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in Genomic Data Science to join the expanding Statistical Genomics team of Dr Valentina Cipriani at the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI, Queen Mary University of London, QMUL), whose research aims to develop and apply computational tools to identify the genetic determinants of rare Mendelian and common complex human genetic diseases using genomics and other omics data within large-scale health datasets.

The postholder will contribute to objectives and development of a research programme funded by Barts Charity, aimed at realising the full potential of Genes & Health and other large-scale health datasets to estimate rare disease prevalence and identify genetic associations in South Asians.

Will have a PhD (or close to completion) in health data science, bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, or a closely related discipline, with demonstrated experience in analysing large-scale genomic and clinical datasets, and in developing reproducible, scalable analytical workflows and interactive visualisation tools (using scripting languages such as R/Python) within high-performance or cloud computing environments.

Need strong data management and database skills, expertise in clinical phenotyping ontologies and the application of machine-learning/AI methods to biomedical data (ideally for the study of rare disease genomics).

You will also have experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, contributing to peer-reviewed publications, and managing your own workload to high standards.

Commitment to open science, good research and workplace practice, and equality, diversity and inclusion is essential.

Located at the Charterhouse Square campus, the WHRI is one of six institutes in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, with over 600 staff members (PhD students, post-docs, all staff). The Institute is a world-leading centre for research, with a vibrant, multidisciplinary scientific environment devoted to innovative therapeutics in cardiovascular, endocrine and inflammatory diseases, and advances in genomics and other related omics applications for the study of rare and common complex diseases, closely connected with large-scale initiatives, such for example the 100,000 Genomes Project.
