Job summary

A tech company is seeking a PLC Software Engineer for a 9-month contract in Hatfield. The role involves developing safety-related PLC systems and implementing global safety standards. Candidates should have a strong background in PLC programming, safety engineering, and familiarity with Siemens systems. An ideal fit will have a STEM degree and experience with TIA Portal. This hybrid position allows for remote work two days a week, offering a negotiable salary outside of IR35.

Qualifications

PLC Software Engineer/PLC Safety Software Engineer/Safety Software Engineer - Siemens - 9 month contract - Hybrid 2 days a week in Hatfield, Hertfordshire - £Negotiable per day - Outside IR35

We're looking for PLC Software Engineers/PLC Safety Software Engineers (Siemens) to help design, develop, and optimise safety-critical control systems used across advanced automation environments.

What You'll Do

• Develop and maintain safety-related PLC systems (Siemens; Beckhoff a bonus).
• Implement safety functions (E-Stops, interlocks, light curtains, etc.) to global standards.
• Support FAT/SAT testing, commissioning, and system optimisation.
• Produce technical documentation and collaborate across engineering disciplines.

Experience Sought

• Proven experience in PLC programming with strong safety engineering expertise.
• Siemens Safety training.
• Strong knowledge of safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC 61508).
• Skilled in TIA Portal and industrial comms (Profibus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus).
• STEM degree and ability to work independently across multiple projects.
• TÜV or CE/SIL experience is a plus.
