Job summary

Planned Surgery Nurse Educator

The closing date is 29 December 2025

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day training and supervision of registered nurses and registered nursing associates, as well as the on boarding, induction, orientation and training of new starters.

It is essential that the post holder exercises initiative and judgement using acquired skills and knowledge, maintaining confidentiality at all times. The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for colleagues.

The post holder will be required to work with minimal supervision and have the ability to work under extreme pressure, and be able to exercise sound judgement and decision making skills.

The post holder is expected to be proactive in terms of keeping themselves fully up to date and briefed on trust policies and performance targets.

Cross covering members of the team will also be expected during busy periods and to cover absence.

Main duties of the job

Day to day training and support for registered nurses and registered nursing associates

Support ward managers with the recruitment of band 4 nursing associates, band 5 registered nurses and band 6 charge nurse/sisters.

Liaise with the theatres/surgical PDN team to ensure all training given to staff is appropriate, relevant and up to date

Keep an updated database for all mandatory training, continued professional development, with attendance, completion and feedback

Will provide educational direction, guidance and access to a range of learning opportunities for all registered staff in PSC and SSSU for maximum learning, by enhancing personal development, through framework of knowledge skills, educational programmes and support.
