Job Title: Personal Assistant – Maternity Cover

Reporting to: The Direct Payments Recipient (The Direct Payments Recipient is the employer and they hold all the employer’s responsibilities associated with this role. Pembrokeshire County Council supports them to fulfil their employer obligations).

Introduction

A young person in Pembrokeshire is looking to employ a personal assistant to support them with their care needs. This young man enjoys activities outdoors, including the park, trips to the beach, walks in the woods, swimming and day trips to Folly Farm. He has no awareness of danger, so the person undertaking the role would need to be alert at all times. As he is non-verbal, an understanding of Autism/Learning Disability would be a requirement.

Main duties
  • Develop a reliable and trusting relationship with the person.
  • Ensure a structured set of activities are maintained.
  • Support the person to access activities of importance.
  • Access suitable community groups.
  • Develop one on one interactions with the person whilst undertaking outings outdoors and activities, which may include physical activities.
  • Communicate with the person’s family and wider support network.
  • Support the employer to develop independent living skills.
  • Provide companionship in the employer’s home, including engaging in conversation and providing social interaction.
  • Ensure the employer’s safety at all times during working hours.
  • Carry out any other reasonable tasks requested by the employer during working hours.
  • Be mindful of safeguarding issues, and feedback any concerns to the relevant authority.
  • Be responsible for contacting the GP, Social Worker or Local Authority should medical assistance be needed.

Other Requirements
  • A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is required.
  • You must have business use on your vehicle insurance to be able to use the vehicle within work hours.
