About The Role

Syme Drummond are thrilled to be working with this exciting customer on this opportunity. At DC Thomson, a company with purpose, you’ll be making a positive impact on the communities they serve. They own some of the country’s best-loved media brands, from news and sport to comics, puzzles, entertainment, genealogy, and tech services.

As a People Advisor, you’ll be at the heart of the People Operations team, managing a busy and varied caseload of employee relations (ER) cases while supporting managers through complex and sensitive situations. Alongside casework, you’ll contribute to projects that drive positive change across the organisation. It’s a perfect balance of hands‑on ER work and strategic involvement, where your proactive, solutions‑focused approach will make a real difference.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage ER cases including absence, grievances, disciplinaries, investigations, and performance issues.
  • Support managers with wellbeing conversations and absence management, liaising with Occupational Health where needed.
  • Lead processes such as random drug and alcohol testing in line with policy.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing clear guidance on complex or high-risk situations.
  • Maintain compliance with HR policies, procedures, and employment law.
  • Contribute to People Operations projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
  • Proven experience in ER, policy, and procedure, with a strong grasp of employment legislation.
  • Comfortable managing a high volume of sensitive cases with confidence and discretion.
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Calm, personable, and able to build strong relationships with managers and colleagues.
  • Enjoys working both independently and collaboratively in a supportive team environment.
