Job description
Payroll Specialist - 30 hours / week

Location: Bolton – 1 day WFH

Salary: circa £45,000- £50,000 FTE

We’re recruiting a hands‑on Payroll Specialist to join a well‑established company based in Bolton. This is a standalone role within the HR & Payroll team, giving you full ownership of payroll processing for salaried employees and responsibility for ensuring all staff are paid accurately and on time.

You will be responsible for the efficient and compliant processing of payroll, oversee compliance and legislation and work closely with other departments, to provide a seamless payroll experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process monthly payroll for salaried staff and directors and oversee weekly payroll.
  • Manage pensions, statutory deductions, benefits and contractual changes.
  • Handle month‑end and year‑end reporting (P60s, P11Ds) and support audits.
  • Produce reports and analysis to support management decision‑making.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll legislation and maintain high standards of accuracy.
  • Streamline and continually improve payroll processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
  • Experience of dealing with difficult and sensitive situations in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of UK payroll legislation.
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to prioritise and delegate.
  • Ability to lead payroll to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Experience of in‑house payroll processing is essential.
  • Highly accurate and detail‑oriented, with ability to work independently.
  • Experience with Sage Payroll and within a FMCG industry is highly desirable.
