We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and highly motivated Phlebotomist to join our friendly General Practice team on a part-time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing an efficient and safe venepuncture service to our patient population, supporting the clinical team in the diagnosis and monitoring of various conditions.
Role Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing an efficient and safe venepuncture service to our patient population, supporting the clinical team in the diagnosis and monitoring of various conditions.
Total Hours: 20 hours per week
Schedule: Over 4 mornings (e.g., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday).
Specific hours/start and finish times to be agreed upon.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Clinical Practice
Perform venepuncture on patients of all ages, following established practice protocols and clinical guidelines, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Accurately and efficiently collect, label, process, and store blood samples, ensuring correct tube types and transport requirements are met.
Check and verify patient identity and consent prior to every procedure.
Ensure the timely delivery or collection of samples by the relevant laboratory services.
Adhere strictly to all infection control policies, including the use of PPE, safe disposal of sharps, and maintaining a clean and tidy clinical environment.
Monitor patients post-procedure, recognising and appropriately managing any adverse reactions (e.g., fainting) and seeking immediate assistance from a clinician when necessary.
2. Administration and Stock Management
Accurately record patient details, tests requested, and collection information in the electronic patient record system (SystemOne).
Maintain and monitor stock levels of phlebotomy consumables and equipment, placing orders as required.
3. Communication and Teamwork
Communicate effectively and sensitively with patients, explaining procedures clearly and offering reassurance, especially to anxious individuals.
Liaise with GPs, Practice Nurses, and administrative staff regarding test requests, sample requirements, and patient queries.
Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with GDPR and practice policy.
Peverell Park Surgery is a large, dynamic, and extremely busy practice located in the heart of the community, dedicated to providing high-quality primary care services to a patient population of approximately 25,000.
Clinical Leadership: The practice is managed by 6 Partners and supported by a team of 15+ Salaried GPs.
Support Team: Our multidisciplinary team is substantial and well-established, including a wide range of Practice Nurses, Allied Health Professionals (AHPs), and a dedicated Admin and Reception staff.

Qualifications/Training
Recognised Certificate of Competence in Phlebotomy/Venepuncture.
Basic Life Support (BLS) training.
Experience
Proven recent experience working as a Phlebotomist, ideally within a healthcare setting. Experience using clinical IT systems (SystemOne).
Skills & Knowledge
Excellent venepuncture technique with a high success rate.
Knowledge of sample integrity and specimen requirements.
Understanding of infection prevention and control.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of basic observations (e.g., blood pressure, weight) is beneficial.

Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to the set morning schedule.
Highly organised and methodical with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload.
Caring, empathetic, and professional manner.
Proactive and willing to undertake relevant further training.
