Job description
HR Manager (Part-Time) – Education Sector

Location: Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside
Hours: 15 hours per week – term time plus two weeks, flexible days. Working times 8.30am to 4.30pm (no flexibility). Pay: £12,000 – £15,000 per annum (equivalent to FTE £30,000 – £37,500).

Fully office based – no hybrid.

About the Role

As HR Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of the school's HR function. This is a varied and hands‑on position where you’ll manage recruitment, safeguarding checks, employee relations, and HR compliance in line with UK employment law and statutory guidance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee HR operations, including contracts, personnel files, and compliance with employment law and safeguarding requirements.
  • Manage the full recruitment cycle, from advertising roles to onboarding new staff.
  • Maintain accurate HR records and the Single Central Record (SCR).
  • Provide professional HR advice on policies, performance, and employee relations.
  • Monitor attendance and absence, including sickness management processes.
  • Develop and update HR policies and ensure staff awareness.
  • Coordinate staff training and development, including mandatory safeguarding training.
  • Support payroll processes and maintain HR systems.
What We're Looking For
  • Proven HR experience, ideally within education or a regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and safer recruitment practices.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in a small team setting.
  • CIPD qualification Level 5 (or working towards) is desirable.
