Overview
The role is responsible for assisting the Breast Services General Manager in providing ongoing Imaging IT system management. Working with the IT service to ensure any issues, upgrades or developments are identified and prioritised in line with the Imaging service requirements. To provide specialist expertise for Breast Imaging and system procurement and development across the two site.
Main duties of the job
- Providing expert guidance in the use and development of imaging systems within the Breast Screening Unit.
- To be first line of management for the breast imaging systems, fault finding across all breast IT systems and their highly complex interdependencies.
- Liaise with cross site PACS Managers to ensure a consistent PACS service is delivered Trust-wide.
- Link with the IT department to ensure business or user requirements are clearly defined or prioritised, leading to the resolution of issues and the development of the breast department Imaging IT systems.
- To work with the IT department to ensure IT policies are correctly implemented and adhered to.
- Working with IT to hold suppliers to account.
- To provide audit information and perform audits on the imaging systems which include PACS, NBSS and CRIS.
- Liaising with clinical and business groups across the organisation.
- Mentoring or supporting breast imaging staff and providing expert guidance in the use of IT imaging systems including NBSS, CRIS, PACS and ICE.
- Ensure that there are systems for training of new staff in the use of all Imaging IT systems, the procedures relating to these systems and their highly complex interdependencies.
- Provide training to new staff in relation to breast imaging systems (NBSS, CRIS and PACS).
- Manage the access/permissions to RIS applications (NBSS via SysMnGR NBSS and CRIS).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Line manage & supervise the Radiography Assistant team
- Co-ordinate and supervise the cross site PACS administrator when on site in the breast department
- Maintain accurate and timely records on all aspects of the IT systems within Imaging
- Implement and clearly communicate contingency plans during periods of system downtime
- Ensure Imaging IT databases are updated and synchronised after the resumption of normal service
- Implement a system for controlling access to the system including the issuing of passwords after appropriate training
- Ensure that there are systems for training of new staff and maintaining the knowledge base. Designing and implementing these as required
- Ensure all diagnostic PACS workstation Monitors adhere to Quality Assurance (QA) tests and protocols within the guidelines set out in the NHSBSP QA Manual. Perform regular timely Monitor tests
- Liaise with the East and North Herts Radiation Protection Physics team to perform patient dose audits
- Undertake system demonstrations and department tours as required
- Represent the department on IT / IG committees/ groups
- Provide effective training and keep full records of all training
- Ensure that all users have correct privileges for the system
- Address user application problems as required
- Monitor the systems to ensure that systems are working as expected
- Manage process for image transfers to other hospitals, controlling access rights for those carrying out the activity
- Be responsible for setting up and maintaining processes for the production of CDs with images for medico legal purposes, outreach clinics and multidisciplinary meetings/case studies
- Liaise with other hospitals and departments regarding Imaging IT issues
- To liaise with the Trust IM&T department and other IT system managers across the Trust
- Manage audits of Imaging IT systems use as required to comply with Trust Information Governance requirements
- To ensure that processes used with the RIS maximise the efficiency of the day to day workflow and to co-ordinate audits to ensure that the system is being used as detailed in the CRIS BSS processes
- To develop the RIS in conjunction with the Screening Office Manager so that data quality reflects the operational workflow
- Assist with clinical interactions as and when necessary
- To ensure that the data held in the RIS is updated as necessary to reflect changes from national guidance, clinical commissioning requirements and departmental operational changes
- Ensure that systems are being utilised to maximum advantage including efficient operation by all levels of staff
- Ensure all data held within the cross site PACS system matches all PAS/RIS applications, update any discrepancies
- Collate interval cancer diagnostic/ surgical imaging/histopathology reports for auditing/reporting purpose. Prepare study case documentation for reporting
- Participate in internal and external breast Research/Trial audit projects
- Manage, review and update the breast screening website (publications/useful links/alerts and General screening locations) liaise with website creators
- Arrange/Co-ordinate Cross Trust site Breast Surgical/screening Study days. (West Herts, East and North Herts and Bedford and B&H SSS) record attendance and issue certification
- Accessing Trust Systems from home remotely out of hours in urgent situations
